ARANA, MARIE

Marie Arana was born in Lima, Peru, the daughter of a Peruvian father and an American mother. She is the author of an acclaimed memoir American Chica, which was a finalist for the National Book Award, the PEN-Memoir Award, and winner of the Books for a Better Life Award. 

She has also published two novels, Cellophane and Lima Nights; The Writing Life, a collection from her well-known column for The Washington Post, which explores the way writers think and work; and  Bolivar: American Liberator, winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Award.
